The Centenary of St Mark’s Church
This year we joyfully marked 100 years since the founding of the Parish of Saint Mark. Established in 1923 to serve the Catholic faithful of Pendlebury, the parish first gathered for Sunday Mass in the nearby Saint Joseph’s School. In 1926 the present Church on Station Road was completed in a traditional style, becoming a beacon of hope for an interwar community and a lasting link to our rich heritage of church architecture and local devotion.
We gave thanks for a century of worship, service and fellowship. The centenary celebrations honoured the generations who built and sustained the parish, celebrated the life of the local Catholic community, and looked forward with hope to the next hundred years. Events included special Masses, communal prayer, historical displays, and opportunities for parishioners to share memories, offer thanks, and deepen relationships. All were warmly welcome to take part in this significant milestone of faith and continuity.
